Bryan Hockett of the Bureau of Land Management, Carson District, informed me that Comstock Mining Inc has withdrawn their access and haul road application!
I hasten to add that it is a coincidence that this decision came about the time I published my last blog entry about the application. Hockett said it came from BLM's suggestion that instead of amending the old right of way, it would be "cleaner" to submit a new application that would get a new case number. I don't know exactly what “cleaner” means. Perhaps there is old baggage (both CMI’s and BLM’s) attached to the original right of way. Maybe the application process will go faster. If anyone knows what “cleaner” really means, let me know.
Also remember that the alternative haul routes can avoid BLM land by traveling on the public highway or in its right of way, although the access road is, I believe, entirely on BLM land.
